SPECIFIC STANDARDS OF PROFESSIONALISM
ALCOHOL
All members of the university community should be aware of the requirements of Illinois law
concerning the consumption, possession, and sale of alcoholic beverages. The university
expects each member of the community to be responsible for his or her own conduct and for
the consequences of that conduct. Any violation of the university alcohol and other drug
policy by a student will result in appropriate disciplinary proceedings, as well as possible
legal ones. Illinois law prohibits the consumption and possession of alcohol by persons under
the age of 21 and the supplying of alcohol to any person under the age of 21. Illinois law also
prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages except by those licensed to sell such beverages.
Individuals planning campus events should consult with the student group advisors in the
Office of Student Programs and Events. For more information on the university drug and
alcohol policy, refer to the Student Manual of University Policies and Regulations. Listed
below are a few of the guidelines that govern events at which alcoholic beverages are served.
