COMMUNICATION WITHIN THE GSB: MAILFOLDERS, EMAIL ACCOUNT AND EMAIL LISTS
MAILFOLDERS
Ph.D. students’ mail folders are located on the first floor of the Harper Center to facilitate
communication within the GSB. The Ph.D. Office will use the mail folders to disseminate
information to students in a timely manner. Ph.D. students are expected to check their mail
folders regularly as they are responsible for the contents. These folders are not provided for
the receipt of U.S. mail.
INDIVIDUAL CHICAGO GSB COMPUTER ACCOUNT
Each student is provided two computer accounts (Chicago GSB and CNetID) that include a
username, password, and e-mail address. The assigned usernames are unique identifiers and
are tied to students’ university identification numbers (UCIDs); therefore, usernames cannot
be changed.
Use of university and Chicago GSB systems is subject to the Privacy and Acceptable Use
Policy document, http://computing.chicagogsb.edu/computing/policies/aup.asp. All users of
university and Chicago GSB systems are subject to this policy and should be familiar with its
content.
The Chicago GSB account provides students’ access to the following resources:
• Chicago GSB computer labs
• E-mail (mail quota is 300 MB)
• Chicago GSB Portal
• Community Directory
• Research Grid
The CNetID account provides students’ access to the following resources:
• Wireless networking
• Remote dial-up access
• VPN
• Proxy access (reserved library online catalogs)
• cMore, https://cmore.uchicago.edu/authenticate.phtml (to check grades and bursar
account)
• Chalk, https://chalk.uchicago.edu/webapps/portal/frameset.jsp
Forwarding CNetID Account E-mail
During the admissions process, Chicago GSB requests the creation of students’ CNetID
accounts; the CNetID e-mail account is set to forward to the Chicago GSB e-mail account.
Students who previously attended the university must forward their CNetID e-mail account
to their Chicago GSB e-mail account, or regularly check both accounts. Information about
forwarding CNetID e-mail can be found at:
https://cnet.uchicago.edu/cmail/bind.cgito=forwarding.
