Deanery Research Ethics Coordinators: You must now consult with the Dean and, where<br />

appropriate, a subject specific advisor, and make a decision. Your options are either<br />

1. To indicate that ethical clearance is not required (see §9.4 <strong>of</strong> the Research Ethics<br />

Policy) in which case you should in<strong>for</strong>m the applicant and keep a record <strong>of</strong> this<br />

decision <strong>for</strong> annual report to the Research Ethics Sub-Committee<br />

2. To grant ethical clearance (see §9.5 <strong>of</strong> the Research Ethics Policy) in which case you<br />

should in<strong>for</strong>m the Chair <strong>of</strong> the Research Committee who will either confirm<br />

permission or require fully consideration. You should keep the applicant updated <strong>of</strong><br />

the progress <strong>of</strong> this process.<br />

3. To submit the application to the Research Ethics Sub-Committee <strong>for</strong> fuller<br />

consideration and in<strong>for</strong>m the applicant that this is the decision that has been reached<br />

at this stage. <strong>The</strong> Chair <strong>of</strong> the Research Ethics Sub-Committee will in<strong>for</strong>m the<br />

applicant <strong>of</strong> any further documentation that is required.<br />
