Inspir<strong>at</strong>ion Corpor<strong>at</strong>ion was founded in 2003, upon <strong>the</strong> merger <strong>of</strong> The<br />

Employment Project and Inspir<strong>at</strong>ion Café (founded in 1993 and 1989,<br />

respectively).<br />

In an <strong>at</strong>mosphere <strong>of</strong> dignity and respect, Inspir<strong>at</strong>ion Corpor<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

helps people who are affected by homelessness and poverty to<br />

improve <strong>the</strong>ir lives and increase self-sufficiency through <strong>the</strong><br />

provision <strong>of</strong> social services, employment training and placement, and<br />

housing.<br />

Uptown and Garfield Park<br />

Inspir<strong>at</strong>ion Corpor<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong>fers two main workforce development<br />

training programs:<br />

• The Employment Project, <strong>of</strong>fering job readiness training for<br />

individuals.<br />

• Inspir<strong>at</strong>ion Kitchens, a social enterprise and culinary training<br />

program.<br />

The Inspir<strong>at</strong>ion Corpor<strong>at</strong>ion also oper<strong>at</strong>es a housing program, only<br />

available to participants in Inspir<strong>at</strong>ion Corpor<strong>at</strong>ion programs. The<br />

organiz<strong>at</strong>ion provides over 100 housing subsidies loc<strong>at</strong>ed throughout<br />

<strong>Chicago</strong>, and plays a leading role in <strong>the</strong> city’s Rental Housing<br />

Support Services Program.<br />

The majority <strong>of</strong> funding for The Employment Project is government<br />

funding (including WIA, CDBG, and HUD) along with some<br />

corpor<strong>at</strong>e money. Inspir<strong>at</strong>ion Kitchens’ funding is more evenly<br />

<strong>Chapin</strong> <strong>Hall</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Chicago</strong> 70
