Mission<br />
To contribute to <strong>the</strong> fullest development <strong>of</strong> L<strong>at</strong>ino immigrants and<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir families through educ<strong>at</strong>ion, training and employment th<strong>at</strong> fosters<br />
full particip<strong>at</strong>ion in <strong>the</strong> changing United St<strong>at</strong>es society while<br />
preserving cultural identity and dignity.<br />

Description <strong>of</strong> Services<br />
Instituto <strong>of</strong>fers several workforce development programs, including:<br />
• Carreras en Salud, a healthcare career p<strong>at</strong>hways bridge<br />
program<br />
• CNC Fast Track Program, helping individuals in lowerskilled<br />
manufacturing positions develop more competitive<br />
skill sets and advance into higher paying jobs<br />
• Mujer Avanzando, a program for L<strong>at</strong>ina single mo<strong>the</strong>rs with<br />
comprehensive services in career p<strong>at</strong>hways, wealth cre<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />
and childcare service.<br />
ManufacturingWorks is a collabor<strong>at</strong>ive between Instituto and <strong>the</strong> City<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Chicago</strong>’s Mayor’s Office <strong>of</strong> Workforce Development.<br />
ManufacturingWorks is a centralized service center for employers<br />
th<strong>at</strong> responds to <strong>the</strong> growing concern over <strong>the</strong> insufficient number <strong>of</strong><br />
skilled workers in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Chicago</strong> manufacturing industry. Instituto<br />
serves as <strong>the</strong> fiscal agent and lead managing and oper<strong>at</strong>ional<br />
organiz<strong>at</strong>ion on ManufacturingWorks.<br />
Instituto <strong>of</strong>fers adult educ<strong>at</strong>ion, a charter school and an altern<strong>at</strong>ive<br />
school for youth, a career development program, and citizenship<br />
prepar<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Instituto is also a Centers for Working Families site, <strong>of</strong>fering<br />
financial counseling and career coaching services for L<strong>at</strong>ina/o<br />
families.<br />
The organiz<strong>at</strong>ion is primarily funded through priv<strong>at</strong>e and corpor<strong>at</strong>e<br />
philanthropy and individual contributions. However, public funds are<br />
still significant and contribute in larger parts to <strong>the</strong> manufacturing<br />
program.<br />

Program(s) <strong>of</strong> primary focus in this report<br />
Carreras en Salud<br />
Carerras en Salud is a collabor<strong>at</strong>ive career p<strong>at</strong>hways healthcare<br />
bridge program established to bridge limited English-pr<strong>of</strong>icient<br />
individuals into Licensed Practical Nursing. Students mastering <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
LPN may also obtain certific<strong>at</strong>ion as a Registered Nurse (RN).<br />
Individuals can enter one <strong>of</strong> 7 levels, each <strong>of</strong> which takes 16 weeks to<br />
complete. Students advance levels according to <strong>the</strong>ir capacity and test<br />
scores.<br />
Since began in 2005, over 700 individuals have enrolled.<br />
