scholastically, as they are often absent from
school due to the treatments against the disease.
This noteworthy project assists children
of all ages from preschoolers to twelfth grade
students visit the child patient's home and help
him/her with school work in order to keep the
child actively involved in the material studied in
class when the child was absent. The group
of students who teach in this project met for
training and accompaniment meetings, led by
Orit Shapira. Female social work students from
Tel Aviv University and Bar-Ilan University whom
she leads at the ICA are integrated in the training
she delivers on treating and attending to patients
and their families within the community.
"Young Adult Cancer Survivors
– Embarking on Life"
The "Young Adults – Embarking on Life" group
is a community that was conceived by the ICA
and designed to provide a supportive setting to
meet the needs of single young adults between
the ages of 20 and 30 who recovered from
cancer. The group consists of members who
were "caught" by the disease at the beginning
of their adult life. The program was created as a
friendly environment with an ICA support group
that holds weekly meetings led by Orit Shapira
and Rachel Ofir. Ongoing accompaniment
and support is offered to the young members
according to their special needs. The groups
open one after another during the year. Upon
the conclusion of the meetings a circle of social
activity is opened including trips, parties and
various events. The social activities are held
by dedicated volunteers, headed by Ilan Lior,
