Isreal Cancer Association<br />

<strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2006</strong><br />

• The ICA continues to support the participation<br />

of Oncology Departments in activities carried<br />

out by the Radiotherapy Group of the European<br />

Organization for Research and Treatment of<br />

Cancer – EORTC.<br />

• The ICA supports the participation of research<br />

students and interns in the annual conference<br />

of the Cancer Biology Research Center.<br />

• The ICA finances the purchase of professional<br />

literature and scientific journals for oncology<br />

departments in medical centers throughout<br />

the country. Thanks to this project, new and<br />

up to date information is available to professionals.<br />

Likewise, the ICA Information Center<br />

is a resource available to professionals, where<br />

they may conduct a search of international<br />

computerized databases.<br />

Clinical Research<br />

Project <strong>2006</strong><br />

The ICA continues to fund basic or clinical<br />

research projects carried out by Oncology Department<br />

interns at Oncology Institutes, in order<br />

to encourage research work in these settings.<br />

This year's grant recipients were:<br />

• Dr. Maya Gifs, Sha'arei Tzedek Medical<br />

Center<br />

• Dr. Moshe Stein, Rambam Medical Center<br />

As part of the clinical project, a Toposimerase-2a<br />

Probe was purchased for the Oncology Institute<br />

at Soroka Medical Center for performing examinations<br />

on 40 breast cancer patients, and the<br />

technician's salary was also financed.<br />
