a retired radiation oncologist and current business<br />

owner of Ideal Window Manufacturing,<br />

Sean G. McGould, of Palm Beach Gardens,<br />

Florida, President and Chief Investment Office<br />

of Lighthouse Partners, and Linda Schottland,<br />

from Boca Raton, Florida, a fashion designer and<br />

financial investor. Officers installed for <strong>2006</strong>-2007<br />

are Harvey Poppel, Vice-President; Deena<br />

Morgan, Vice President; Joel Levine, Treasurer,<br />

Allison LaBossiere, Assistant Treasurer and<br />

Richard Karp, Secretary. Volunteer of the Year<br />

Awards were given to Bernice Weinstein and<br />

Irv Bernard.<br />

In November, the South Florida Council of the<br />

Israel Cancer Association USA held a reception<br />

at the Blue Gallery in Delray Beach, Florida that<br />

featured the well-known Israeli Artist David<br />

Schluss. The program chaired by Elyssa<br />

Kupferberg and Judy Maidenbaum was the<br />

opening event of the season and attracted many<br />

newcomers to the organization. Mr. Schluss<br />

discussed his artwork and the techniques that<br />

he uses to create his works.<br />

On November 15, the Association of Fundraising<br />

Professionals, a national organization that<br />

represents most charities in the United States,<br />

honored<br />

Linda R. Kaminow as the Palm Beach County<br />

Philanthropist of the Year, for her outstanding<br />

contributions to the Israel Cancer Association<br />

and to countless other charities in the United<br />

States and Israel. The Israel Cancer Association<br />

USA nominated her for this coveted award and<br />

members of the staff and Board of Directors attended<br />

the special luncheon in her honor. Linda<br />

R. Kaminow grew up in New York witnessing her<br />

parents' generosity. Over the years, Linda has<br />

become a major philanthropist in her own right.<br />

Involved with the ICA USA since its inception,<br />

she generously supports cutting edge cancer<br />

research and builds facilities for helping cancer<br />

patients and their families. In addition to her<br />

research funding she has provided the funds<br />

to build new cancer treatment facilities at Israeli<br />

hospitals and a new branch of the Israel Cancer<br />

Association in northern Israel. Linda's generosity<br />

has had far-reaching impact for cancer patients<br />

worldwide. Cancer cures found in Israel benefit<br />

the entire world.<br />

In December the ICA USA held its most successful<br />

Membership Event at the Four Seasons<br />

Hotel in Palm Beach. Debra and Nat Steinart<br />

of Boca Raton served as the co-chairs of the<br />

event. The guest speaker for the event was<br />

Bernie Marcus, co-founder of Home Depot Inc.<br />

the world’s largest home improvement retailer<br />

and President of the Marcus Foundation, which<br />

primarily supports cancer research. Mr. Marcus<br />

stated, “9 out of 10 of the best cancer researchers<br />

in the world come from Israel.”<br />

Nancy and Peter Brown hosted a Major Gifts<br />

Reception at their home to recognize the Cancer<br />

Research Fellowship Donors and members<br />

of the Circle of Hope program. Peter thanked<br />

everyone for their outstanding contributions to<br />

cutting edge cancer research in Israel. A new<br />

film produced by Israel Cancer Association<br />

USA was shown during the evening. The film<br />

highlights the outstanding work that is being<br />

done by the Israel Cancer Association and the<br />

breakthroughs that have been discovered as<br />

a result of the support given to the research<br />

scientists in Israel.<br />

In January, ICA USA held its first Luncheon<br />

Lecture of the season, featuring<br />

William G. Kerr PhD, Associate Professor of<br />

the Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology at<br />

the H. Lee Moffit Comprehensive Cancer Center<br />

at the University of South Florida, in Tampa. He<br />

discussed “Stem Cells in Health: Possibilities<br />

and Challenges.<br />

February 1, the Israel Cancer Association held<br />

its <strong>Annual</strong> Gala at the Mar-A-Lago Club in Palm<br />

Beach, Florida, honoring Linda R. Kaminow<br />

and presenting the E. G. Rosenblatt Award for<br />

Scientific Achievement to Dr. David P. Kelsen<br />

Chief of Gastrointestinal Oncology Services at
