Art Therapy training group. Opportunity to explore the special
features and characteristics of art therapy within a group
environment. In the context of the group the student will be
enabled to establish an awareness of self and the relationship
between the personalised art image and the group process.

Art Therapy Placement 1
FACULTY OF EDUCATION & ARTS
This is the first of two supervised placement units which give the
student an opportunity to develop and improve his/her art therapy
skills and to relate theoretical study to practice. In this placement
the student is required to spend a total of 100 hours in one
institution or agency where he/she will work individually and in
groups with patients. The placements run concurrently with other
course units and enable the student to orientate to effectiveness or
otherwise of art therapy over several weeks.

Research Preparation

The unit will assist the students in the development of their
research ideas. It will involve formulating a scheme for research
and writing a research proposal.

Art Therapy Research 1
FACULTY OF EDUCATION & ARTS
The research will involve the planning and conduct of a smallscale
research activity or the development of a resource. It should
be a seminal work of graduate level quality in either a clinical or
didactic area directly related to art therapy. The format for the
project may follow a traditional thesis structure or may be
presented as an extended case study related to an area of clinical
practice. Non-traditional thesis material such as videos, film
audio/slide presentations will be judged individually for
acceptance by course and faculty assessment panel.
The length of the project will be 10,000 words. For theses, from
10,000 to 20,000 words.

This unit is concerned with the development of the student's
ability to lead groups and develop his/her own leadership style. It
also focuses on achieving an understanding of the stages of group
development. Experiential method is used to enable the student to
practice leadership skills and to provide material for reflection on
the evolving group process.

This is the second of two supervised placements of 80 days
(approx.) duration to run concurrently with other course units. The
description and outline for this unit is as for ART5286 Art
Therapy Placement 1 and builds upon the implications,
investigations and experience gained.

Art Therapy Training Group is concerned with the development
of an understanding about the importance of closure in art
therapy. It will focus on the process of separation and loss as the
therapeutic relationship comes to an end. Experiential method is
used to enable the integration of thoughts, feelings and actions as
the last course training group process takes place and ends.

Aviation Physiology
FACULTY OF COMPUTING, HEALTH AND SCIENCE
This unit will encompass a study of the aviation environment, and
the effects of that environment on human physiology. It will
include the study of the physiological oxygen cascade and the
effects of hypoxia and decreased atmospheric pressure on both the
physiology of the individual in health and in the individual with
common medical conditions. This unit will also present and
discuss physiological limitations and hazards in some special
areas of aviation which require consideration. These include
rotary wing or helicopter operations, aerial agriculture, aerobatics,
gliding, balloons and ultralight operations and recreational flying
activities.

Clinical Aviation Medicine: Aircrew Medical Certification

This unit will examine the International Civil Aviation
Organisations (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices for
Aircrew and Air Traffic Controller Medical Certification. It
includes clinical assessment and investigations to assess risk in
medical certification and investigative procedures in accidents.
