CO-OP EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Co-op Ed. program is open to all
students wishing to explore a work option. It is
intended to meet individual interests and needs
i.e. career/skill development, timetable or
enrolment conflicts, etc.
Grade 9 - 12 students should consider
planning their courses to allow for involvement in
Cooperative Education Life/Work Exploration
WKX classes. (Up to 4 credits can be earned in
this program.)
Students require a full complement of
regular classes and, therefore, would not
normally be timetabled into Co-op Ed. for
transition to work but we do encourage them to
enrol in the WKX single credit classes to be
done outside of school hours. "Employed" at
least 8 hours per week, students can benefit
from an introduction to the workplace, thereby
earning elective credits.
Students need to check with a guidance
counsellor as to the suitability (transferability) of
Coop. Ed. credits within their major.

This course is designed to:
‣ Help students understand and value the
importance of work.
‣ Help students recognize and appreciate
employer expectations.
‣ Help students take ownership of their
own learning as it relates to career
planning and preparation.
‣ Link earning a living with the use of
schooling. . . Work experience may take
place in a variety of settings.

Prerequisite: Sincere Interest and referral
This course is designed to:
‣ Increase self-understanding and
decision-making skills, relative to needs
and desires of self and society
‣ Help students investigate specific
careers and thereby determine
individual suitability.
‣ Help students organize/arrange their
studies, mindful of basic life skills, i.e.
interpersonal, work activity-ethic skills,
reading for understanding, problem
solving/defining, and research skills.
All of this is to be done with an application
towards specific career selection, suitability to
that career, and personal growth on the job.
(Including entrepreneurship.) Work Experience
may take place in school or industrial settings.

This course is designed to:
‣ Assist students in developing the skills
needed to gain and keep a job.
‣ Help students meet the expectations of
the workplace.
‣ Facilitate the practical application of
work in conjunction with the Academic,
Business, Technical Preparation and
Occupational programs of our school.
The program will be developed to suit
needs of the individual student and the
workplace.
