3.1.2 Response to the survey<br />
67 Responses were received for the indicator questionnaire and 85 responses for the dimensions<br />
questionnaire.<br />
In terms <strong>of</strong> institutional age, the response appears to be skewed towards the younger categories.<br />
Compared to the IAU based size strata the sample is skewed towards larger higher education<br />
institutions. Apparently, larger higher education institutions had more resources, commitment or<br />
opportunities to participate in the survey. The responding higher education institutions are evenly<br />
distributed across the four <strong>European</strong> regions as distinguished in the UN classifi cation <strong>of</strong> <strong>European</strong><br />
regions.<br />

3.2 The dimensions<br />
Table 2 presents an overview <strong>of</strong> the adapted list <strong>of</strong> dimensions and indicators <strong>of</strong> the classifi cation,<br />
as used in the survey. The changes to the original list (as presented in Table 1) have resulted from<br />
the fi ndings <strong>of</strong> case studies and the pilot-survey.<br />
