interpretations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan that are<br />
based on opinion. This while we have with<br />
us explanations from <strong>the</strong> Prophet �,<br />
<strong>the</strong> one<br />
assigned by Allah to convey <strong>and</strong> explain His<br />
Message. "And We have also sent down unto you (O<br />
Muhammad �)<br />
<strong>the</strong> Reminder <strong>and</strong> Advice, that you may explain<br />
clearly to men what is sent down to <strong>the</strong>m."<br />
And undoubtedly, Allah's Messenger fulfilled this<br />
responsibility <strong>of</strong> his in a manner that anyone who turns away from<br />
this guidance has none to blame but himself. He � said, "…I should<br />
not like to see anyone amongst you on <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Resurrection,<br />
carrying over his neck a horse that will be bleating or carrying over his<br />
neck a horse that will be neighing, Such a man will be saying, "O<br />
Allah's Messenger �,<br />
Intercede with Allah for me!" <strong>and</strong> I will reply, "I<br />
can't help you, for I have conveyed Allah's Message to you."<br />
The severe caution against raising voices in <strong>the</strong> Messenger's<br />
presence was given at a time when any defiance to his teachings was<br />
inconceivable. It is narrated that after <strong>the</strong> revelation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se verses<br />
from Soorah al-Hujurat about raising voices in <strong>the</strong> Messenger's<br />
presence, Umar spoke so s<strong>of</strong>tly that <strong>the</strong> Prophet � had to ask him to<br />
repeat himself in order to be understood.<br />

Similarly Anas bin Malik narrated, "When this Ayah (49:2)<br />
was revealed, Thabit bin Qays whose voice was (naturally) loud said, 'I<br />
was <strong>the</strong> one who raised his voice above <strong>the</strong> voice <strong>of</strong> Allah's Messenger.<br />
I am among <strong>the</strong> dwellers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fire. My good deeds have been done in<br />
vain." He remained in his house feeling distressed until <strong>the</strong><br />
