Connecting with each other<br />
In his book “Who’s Got Your Back?” Keith<br />
Ferrazzi wrote, “If we want to be as successful<br />
as we know we can be, we need the help of<br />
others.” He shared, “As a society, we’re crying<br />
out for more community, more help, more<br />
advice and support.”<br />
I’ve always maintained that the best way to<br />
succeed is to build relationships. I argue that<br />
the very technology that was designed to help us<br />
seems to have consumed us, instead. Everyone<br />
is pulled in so many directions – texting, instant<br />
messaging, e-mailing, and talking on their cell<br />
phones – that t<strong>here</strong> is a serious disconnect<br />
on a deeper social level. When was the last<br />
time you had lunch or dinner with a colleague<br />
or associate and looked each other in the eye<br />
and shared ideas – WITHOUT at least one of<br />
you checking your Blackberry or iPhone for<br />
messages?<br />
Home is w<strong>here</strong> the heart is<br />
<strong>The</strong> advantage to having a client to your home<br />
for dinner is that you will get to know each<br />
other on a more personal level - a higher level<br />
than you could attain by merely meeting at a<br />
restaurant or in an office setting.<br />
Remember, t<strong>here</strong> is a big difference between<br />
entertaining clients and hosting friends. One is<br />
work. It is more fun than a day at the office, but<br />
it is still work. When I have friends over, I can<br />
relax and be myself. When I have clients over,<br />
