This passion for excellence in communication<br />

became my driving force. As a reporter, I<br />

woke up every morning looking for interesting<br />

people with unique stories. It was my job to<br />

bring their triumphs and tribulations to the<br />

masses. My passion was fueled every time I met<br />

extraordinary characters.<br />

Inspiring Characters<br />

One such impressive story centered around<br />

2-year-old Caleb in Des Moines, Iowa. You’ll find<br />

out why his fatherless status inspired others to<br />

step up. His father’s fraternity brothers were<br />

helping to raise Caleb in their fraternity house<br />

so his mother could finish school at Iowa State<br />

University. Everyone was working together to<br />

help the young family have a better life, in spite<br />

of the tragic death of Caleb’s father in an icy<br />

road accident when Caleb was just a baby.<br />

My sense of passion as a journalist was<br />

inspired by musicians, politicians, and people<br />

from all walks who were at the top of their<br />

game. As a rookie reporter, I interviewed Garth<br />

Brooks in Fargo, North Dakota. Years later, I<br />

interviewed Patti LaBelle in Detroit. Even as a<br />
