100. YILINDA ÇANAKKALE ZAFERİ / CENTENNIAL OF THE ÇANAKKALE VICTORY
rerek yaptıkları hatanın bedelini ödedi.
Çanakkale, Türkler için fiziki ve psikolojik
olarak muazzam bir öneme sahiptir ve
savaşın hatıraları bugün hala zihinlerde
canlılığını koruyor. Dünya harp tarihinde
Amerikalıların Gettysburg, İngilizlerin
Somme, Fransızların Verdun, Sovyetlerin
Leningrad muharebelerindeki yeniden uyanışları
gibi, Türkler de Çanakkale’deki yeniden
uyanış ile tarihe geçti. Çanakkale zaferi,
Avrupalı büyük güçler tarafından yıkılması
planlanan Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun
tasfiyesine rağmen, yenilgiye karşı direnen
Mustafa Kemal’in bağımsızlık savaşı ve
genç Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kuruluşunun
simgesidir. Bu tarihten sonra Türkiye
Cumhuriyeti, egemen devletler arasında
yer almaya başladı. Osmanlı bir dev değildi;
Osmanlı efsanevi Zümrüd-ü Anka
kuşuydu. Türk Milleti, tıpkı Zümrüd-ü
Anka kuşu gibi, tarihte kurdukları pek
çok devletin yıkışından sonra küllerinden
yeniden doğdu ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’ni
kurdu. Çanakkale Muharebesi, Türkiye-
Avustralya-Yeni Zelanda arasındaki tarihi
ortaklığın simgesi, okyanus ötesi dostluğun
köprüsü oldu. Bu devletlerin egemenlik
ve bağımsızlık kapılarının aralandığı
dönemin, sömürgeden ulus devlete geçişlerinin
başlangıcı oldu.
“Size ben taarruzu
emretmiyorum, ölmeyi
emrediyorum. Biz
ölünceye kadar
geçecek zaman
zarfında, yerimize başka
kuvvetler ve komutanlar
geçebilir.”
Komutanı Yarbay
“I am not ordering you
to attack; I am ordering
you to die. In the time
that it takes us to
die, other forces and
commanders can come
and take our place.”
Lit. Col. Mustafa Kemal,
Anafartalar Group
Commander
the World War I. The West, namely the
Allied Forces, paid for underestimating the
Turkish army.
Çanakkale is highly important for Turkish
people in terms of its physical and psychological
outcomes. The memories of war are
still alive within the minds of Turkish society.
Similar to the resurrection of America
in Gettysburg, Britain in Somme, France
in Verdun and Soviets in Leningrad wars;
Turks resurrected and made history in
Çanakkale. The Çanakkale victory is the
symbol of resisting Mustafa Kemal’s war
of independence and the establishment of
young Republic of Turkey although major
forces of Europe were planning to demolish
the Ottoman Empire. From this date
forward, the Republic of Turkey started
to have a place among sovereign states.
Ottoman Empire was like a phoenix. The
Turkish nation rose from the ashes of
many fallen states that they have established
throughout history. The Battle of
Çanakkale became the symbol of the historic
partnership of Turkey-Australia-New
Zealand and a bridge for friendship overseas.
It was the beginning of the transition
of these countries from colonies to nation
states and the period of opening of the
doors for sovereignty and independence.
