Prerequisites: SOC 1301, 6additional academic hours in Sociology andBehavioral Sciences, upper level standing.SOC 3331 Sociology of Children and ChildhoodExamination and analysis of the concepts, theories,and empirical research in the sociological study ofchildren and childhood with a focus on the socialconstruction of the perception of children and ofchildhood as a distinct life stage; the process ofsocialization; and the social problems facing children.Although the emphasis will be on children in U.S.society, a global perspective will also be used toexplore the diversity of children‘s experiences acrosssocieties.
