CAI 5328 Historical and Philosophical Foundationsof EducationThis course examines the relationship between theoryand practice in education, the assumptions underlyingeducational decisions and actions and the influences ofeducational philosophy and historical traditions on oureducational system. Examining stated purposes, eventsand trends that continue to shape and influence publicand independent educational systems today will enablethe master teacher to set a course for effectivedecision-making in the future.CAI 5329 Thesis Proposal and DefenseThis course allows students to practice the skills andknowledge learned in MED 5305 Teacher asResearcher. Students will be required to develop anddefend the proposal for their thesis. Students willdevelop the topic, do beginning research, locate,review and critique literature related to their thesistopic, defend this topic for further study. The thesisProposal must be written, defended and acceptedbefore the student may take CAI 5326 Masters Thesis.Prerequisite: MED 5305 Teacher as ResearcherECE 5330 Language Acquisition and Emergent Lit.This course provides the philosophy of languagedevelopment and emergent literacy, acquisition ofstructure, content, and use of children's language inreading, writing, speaking and listening.Cross listed as LTC 5330.ECE 5340 Infant and Toddler ProgramsThis course provides understanding the whole child,pre-natal through age three. Research ofdevelopmental and special needs will lead tocurriculum for the individual child.ECE 5342 Curriculum through PlayThis course provides research of the theory of learningthrough play. Instructional strategies will be exploredand developed using play through the curriculum.ECE 5344 Admin. of Early Childhood Programs IThis course provides a study of the beginning of aprogram as well as improving existing programs. Itincludes: daily operations, assessment, health andsafety, nutrition and management of programs.ECE 5345 Admin. of Early Childhood Programs IIThis course is a continuation of ECE 5344.Prerequisite: ECE 5344.ECE 5346 Research Seminar in ECEThis course is a capstone course for students in theEarly Childhood Education or Early ChildhoodAdministration sequence of the M.Ed. program.Requirements could be met in one of three ways by:writing a master's thesis in early childhood.participating in a project that will increase thestudent's awareness and skills in developingand implementing an ECE program.traveling abroad to study early childhoodprograms in other countries.The Implementation Plan created in MED 5305 willbe implemented in this class. Prerequisite: MED 5305EDAD 5351 Principal as Diversity LeaderA course of study giving students an opportunity todevelop and increase skills and knowledge in the areasof religion, ethics, conflict resolution, counseling, thehistorical influences on ethnic diversity interaction,community relations, and leadership of the schoolenvironment. It is necessary for the schooladministrator to be the force by which these groupscannot only coexist, but to share common goals andwork together in a collaborative manner, so allstudents can be successful and be a productive force inthe community, nation and world.EDAD 5352 Principal as Resource LeaderA course of study centered on the administrator'sability to efficiently manage and utilize the humanresources, effectively utilize and manage the financialresources, and physical resources for the optimumbenefit of students and the learning environment.EDAD 5353 Principal as Prof. Dev. and Cont. Ed. Ldr.A course of study centers on staff development andcontinuing education of the educational staff. Students willlearn to develop a continuing educational program at thelocal campus and develop staff development training thatwill meet the needs and continued professionaldevelopment of the staff at all levels of experience. Thecourse will reflect upon the different theories of adultlearning and development.EDAD 5354 Principal as Compliance Officer(Practicum)This course will be experiential in nature. Studentswill have practical experience as an administratordealing with day to day situations faced by principals.Students will be an active part of accountability as theState of Texas continues to monitor progress by thelocal districts. This will be the final course of study foreducational administration.
