Interested applicants who cannot take classes on campus in Austin should contact CUE Net in Medford, OR formore information on taking classes for the teacher colloquy program. Interested applicants who can take courses oncampus in Austin should contact the Office of the Registrar. Students enrolled in the Colloquy Program are classifiedas non-degree seeking students. The eight required classes include:REL 1311 - History & Literature of the Old TestamentREL 1301 - New Testament History and ReadingREL 3341 - Lutheran DoctrineREL 3333 - Introduction to Christian EthicsREL 3353 - American Christianity or REL 3381, Major World ReligionsREL 3354 - History of ChristianityEDU 3333 - Teaching ReligionEDU 3161 - Office of the MinistryDirector of Christian Education (DCE) CertificateUpon successful completion of all requirements for the DCE Major, the final requirement for certification by TheLutheran Church-Missouri Synod is a year-long internship, normally following graduation, in a congregation, agency,or mission site of the LCMS. This internship will enable students experience as many aspects of the DCE ministry aspossible. While interns register as students under the ultimate direction of the DCE Program Director duringinternship, they are also paid by the participating congregation or agency and are under the direct supervision of a fulltimeperson in the congregation or agency during this time.Return to Table of ContentsPost- Baccalaureate CertificateStudents who have earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university may pursue coursework at <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> Texas for the purpose of acquiring a major in a different field of study. They mustcomplete all of the requirements for the major to receive the certificate. Students who complete a baccalaureate degreewith a 2.50 GPA or higher may apply for the post-baccalaureate program.Students who have earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university may pursue coursework at <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> Texas for the purpose of teacher certification by the State of Texas. Admission to thisprogram requires the same minimum academic prerequisites as the degree seeking program. All students withbaccalaureate degrees who are interested in teacher certification should call the Dean of Education for detailedinformation.Return to Table of ContentsLutheran Teacher DiplomaComplete the Elementary Education or Secondary Education Program.Membership in a congregation affiliated with The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.Each year, file a Declaration of Intent to enter the Teaching Ministry of The Lutheran Church-MissouriSynod in the Office of Teacher Education in the Spring Term.Completion of 20 academic hours of Lutheran Teacher Diploma required courses. At least 15 hours must becompleted prior to the Professional Term with a GPA of 2.50 or better in all hours attempted.Completion of EDU 4815 Elementary Student Teaching or EDU 4805 Elementary/ECE Student Teaching inan appropriate accredited/approved Lutheran elementary school (PK-8) or the completion of EDU 4873Secondary Student Teaching in an appropriately accredited/approved Lutheran secondary school (7-12).Recommendation of the <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> Texas faculty.<strong>2008</strong>-<strong>2009</strong> <strong>Catalog</strong> Page 50
