It is best applied at the earliestpossible stage, usually when prodromal changes ofsensation are felt in the lip and be<strong>for</strong>e vesicles appear.Penciclovir cream is also licensed <strong>for</strong> the treatment ofherpes labialis; it needs to be applied more frequentlythan aciclovir cream.
