34. Fire Extinguishers/ Inspected (185.395e1; 175.495; 180/BC:921.2; 180/F:519.2; NFPA 10)Class ABC fire extinguishers are required and should be readily accessible. Other classes of fireextinguishers may be substituted if there are special hazards requiring special protection. The fireextinguishers must be inspected annually and display a current tag. The number required depends onthe size of the space.35. Fire Alarm Signal (185.395d4; 175.470e; 180/PM:705.6; 180/IAC 400.310s)An audible fire alarm signal (or signals) must be an alarm horn loud enough to be heard above noiselevel in the automotive shop. Construction under the 180 code must comply with the IAC whichrequires all public use and common areas to have audible and visual alarms. IAC also requirespersons in the space to be able to hear an audible alarm above the noise level in the space.36. Exhaust/Painting Booth (185.460a4; 175.552; 180/PM:404.4; 180/BC:1209.0; 180/BC:1208.3;180/F:2317.2)The air to be exhausted from the painting booth shall be in accordance with applicable coderequirements. Such contaminated air must be exhausted to the outside and not re-circulated.37. Exhaust/Welding Booth (185.460a4; 175.552; 180/PM:404.4; 180/BC:1209.0; 180/BC:1208.3;180/F:2317.2)The air to be exhausted from the welding booth shall be in accordance with applicable coderequirements. Industrial type hoods and exhausting equipment is required. Such contaminated airmust be exhausted to the outside and not re-circulated.38. Explosion Proof Lights (185.510a; 175.660f; 180/F:3203.8; NFPA 70 art. 500-2a(1); ANSI/UL1203-1988)Explosion proof lighting fixtures, devices, controls and raceway systems shall be used in, or adjacentto, paint spray booths.39. Eye Glasses (105 ILCS 115/1 (a) (b)During any activity which may harm eyes, industrial quality eye protective devices (eye glasses) arerequired to be furnished for all teachers, visitors, and students.BLEACHERS AND GRANDSTANDS41. Inspection/Maintenance (185.830; 175.310d; NFPA 102, Chapter 5, Sec.5-8.2c)An annual inspection and required maintenance of each grandstand and bleacher shall be performedto assure safe conditions. At least biennially the inspection shall be performed by a professionalengineer, structural engineer, or a registered architect. The authority having jurisdiction (REGIONALSUPERINTENDENT) may require certification that such inspection has been performed in accordancewith NFPA 102, Chapter 5, Sec.,5-8.2c. At least biennially the inspection of folding and telescopicbleachers shall be performed by a professional engineer, structural engineer or qualified servicepersonnel in accordance with NFPA 102, Chapter 5, Sec. 5-8.2c. Qualified service personnel shall berepresentatives of the manufacturer whom the manufacturer certifies as qualified to assume the liabilityof such an inspection.BOILER ROOM50. Door Swing (185.390e2E; 175.285b)Interior doors to heater and boiler rooms shall open into the room.51. Fire Detectors (185.395c2A; 175.460a6; 180/PM:705.5.1; 180/PM:705.6.1)Fire detectors are required in boiler rooms not protected by an automatic sprinkler system.2-15
