185. Illuminated Exit Signs (185.370a6; 175.480a; 180/PM:702.5)Illuminated exit signs and directional exit signs shall be installed at every required exit doorway. (Notrequired if capacity is less than 100 persons.).186. Number of exits ( 185.370b4; 185.380c5; 175.410g; 180/PM:702.3; 180/BC:1006-7)At least two exits, remote from each other must be readily available from every space in the building.MUSIC PRACTICE ROOMS191. Fire Alarm Signal (185.395d4; 175.470e; 180/PM:705.6; 180/IAC 400.310s)An audible fire alarm signal (or signals) must be an alarm horn loud enough to be heard above noiselevel in the music room. Construction under the 180 code must comply with the IAC which requires allpublic use and common areas to have audible and visual alarms. IAC also requires persons in thespace to be able to hear an audible alarm above the noise level in the space.PHOTO DEVELOPING ROOM201. Fire Detectors (185.395c2B; 175.460a2; 180/PM:705.5.1; 180/PM:705.6.1)Fire detectors are required in photo developing rooms not protected by an automatic sprinkler system202. Door Closers (185.380c10E; 185.390g4; 175.285a; 180/PM:702.6) Except in sprinkleredbuildings, automatic door closers are required on all doors required to maintain the fire/smoke rating ofthe space on at least one side of the door opening and in all “special education occupancies.” Doorclosures unique to maintaining the dark room (e.g. barrel doors and specifically designedpassageways) are acceptable.203. Hold-Open Devices (185.370b11A; 175.275; 180/BC:712.4.1; 180/F:303.4.1; 180/PM:704.2)Hold-open devices are prohibited on all doors described as “self-closing.” Exception to this rulerequires that the “hold-open device” is an approved electrically operated device that is wired into thefire detection and alarm system such that it will automatically release the door if or when the fire alarmsystem is actuated.204. Fire Extinguishers/ Inspected (185.395e1; 175.495; 180/BC:921.2; 180/F:519.2; NFPA 10)Class ABC fire extinguishers are required and should be readily accessible. Other classes of fireextinguishers may be substituted if there are special hazards requiring special protection. The fireextinguishers must be inspected annually and display a current tag. The number required depends onthe size of the space.205. Exhaust Fan (185.460c; 175.564; 180/PM:404.4; 180/BC:1209.0; 180/BC:1208.3;180/F:2317.2)An exhaust fan must be provided in any classroom where objectionable odors or fumes are produced.Such contaminated air must be exhausted to the outside and not re-circulated.206. Flammable Storage (185.370b4H; 185.390e1D; 180/F:606.1.1180/F:2205.3; 180/F:3201.4)Flammable and/or combustible materials or liquids must be stored in approved storage containerslocated away from the room’s exit door.PROJECTION ROOM211. Fire Detectors (185.395c2e; 180/PM:705.5.1; 180/PM:705.6.1)Fire detectors are required in projection rooms within assembly rooms with a capacity over 600persons which are not protected by an automatic sprinkler system2-24
