School Building Construction/Reconstruction Permit ProcessSchool building construction involves obtaining a building permit, securing a statement of compliance,and issuing an occupancy permit. A building permit is not required for "minor repairs" as explainedbelow.Building Permit ChecklistIf your project has any one (1) of the following, you must complete the Application for a BuildingPermit and submit it to the Regional Office of Education. After examination and approval of theproject, including appropriate drawings, a Building Permit will be issued.£ Repairs to a facility, which, aggregated over the course of a year, cost more than $20,000*£ Change in Use: any change in how an existing facility is operated and utilized which involves:£ structural strength£ ingress or egress£ electrical system(s)£ plumbing system(s)£ fire protection system(s)£ Cutting away of any wall, partition, or portion of the same£ Cutting or removal of a structural beam or load bearing support£ Removal or change in a required means of egress£ Rearrangement of parts affecting:£ exit requirements£ addition to, alteration of, replacement or relocation of any standpipe, drain leader, gas, soil,waste, water supply, sewer drainage, vent or similar piping£ electrical wiring£ mechanical£ other required building system* Minor repairs, which do not require a Building Permit, are defined as: any repairs to a facility, which,aggregated over the course of a year, cost less than $20,000.1- -2
