Once the basic Sametime infrastructure is in place, includingthe ability for instant messaging and Web conferencing, Phase I also includesbasic customizations to the meeting center.13.5.1 Implementing an infrastructure for instant collaborationOne of the business needs identified in 13.2, “Business drivers andrequirements” on page 361 was to implement tools to enable instantcollaboration between people of different divisions.To provide this functionality, FME will install the Sametime 3.1server and theSametime client. At this point, the installation is a straightforward, out of the boxinstallation without any modifications. Sametime can be linked to either a Dominodirectory or an LDAP directory. With those standard features, we are able to offer the following functionalities:► Instant messaging collaboration► People awareness► Audio and video conference► Application sharingIn addition to providing FME with the functionality shown above, FME has nowalso established the base infrastructure for the rest of features to beimplemented.Implementation methodologyAs mentioned earlier, deploying a Sametime 3.1 server and the Sametime 3client with its out-of-the-box features will provide FME with functionality forinstant messaging, Web conferencing, and other real-time collaborativecapabilities. Since it is outside the scope of this redbook to provide specificinstructions on installation and deployment, we will not provide details about howto install a Sametime Server.
