Tape a strip of butcher paper to the wall to mark the heights and reaches of thestudents in your class. Label each mark with the student's name. Mark and label eachstudent's foot length. Measure, to the nearest centimetre, each student's data andrecord in a table........~E(GHTREACHFOOTLDJGTI-\If the table is drawn on the board or on a poster, have students examine the datafor patterns. The data should show that the heights and reaches are approximately thesame for each student. In the two extra columns have each student compute, to thenearest hundredth, the ratio of height to reach and the ratio of height to foot length.The former should be about 1.00 and the latter will probably show no pattern. Takingthe average of all the ratios of height to reach will probably be very close to 1.00.The data in the table can beused to make a bar graph. Provideeach student with a small squareand let him glue the square in theappropriate column on a graph likethe one shown here.
