UseThe general questions asked on the student page are one way that a teacher couldbring information about musical performances into the mathematics classroom. The pageis, of course, most appropriate when students have recently attended a concert. You maywant to add specific questions to the page for a particular concert.Some questions require access to specific information. Newspaper articles, posters<strong>and</strong> the promoter are good sources. If the information is not easily obtained, then rewordor omit those questions.If concerts are not held nearby so that students can attend, discuss one that theywould be interested in attending. A student page could be developed using an advertisement<strong>and</strong> an article with information about a performance.The questions could be adjusted to ask about a television special in which a favoritesinger hosts or performs. Athletic events or plays are topics that can be similarlybrought into the classroom. Writing the questions could be a student's project. Schoolproductions provide much interest <strong>and</strong> data. Information about attendance capacities,ticket sales <strong>and</strong> expenses is readily available <strong>and</strong> of concern to many of the students.Extensions of the Student Page:Some students may finish the questions feeling that the promoters make a lot ofmoney. If this interests them, they may want to investigate the business of promotion.Suggest that they write or call agencies to find information. A common question is: Howmuch do various performers earn?
