N01A ANESTHETICS, GENERAL<br />

N01AA Ethers<br />

This group comprises agents which produce general anesthesia, surgical<br />

analgesia or neuroleptanalgesia. See also M03A - Peripherally acting<br />

muscle relaxants.<br />

Benzodiazepine derivatives are classified in N05BA or N05CD.<br />

N01AB Halogenated hydrocarbons<br />

N01AF Barbiturates, plain<br />

This group comprises barbiturates used as anesthetics.<br />

Barbiturates used as hypnotics/sedatives <strong>and</strong> as premedication, see<br />

N05CA - Barbiturates, plain.<br />

N01AG Barbiturates in combination with other drugs<br />

Only preparations used as anesthetics are classified in this group. See<br />

also N05CB - Barbiturates, combinations.<br />

N01AH Opioid anesthetics<br />

Opioid anesthetics in combination with other anesthetics are classified in<br />

this group at separate 5th levels using the corresponding 50-series.<br />

Transdermal <strong>for</strong>mulations of fentanyl are classified in N02AB.
