P02 ANTHELMINTICS<br />

The anthelmintics are subdivided according to the main type of worms<br />

(i.e. trematodes, nematodes <strong>and</strong> cestodes) causing the infections.<br />

P02B ANTITREMATODALS<br />

This group comprises drugs mainly used <strong>for</strong> trematode infections such<br />

as e.g. schistosomiasis. Niclosamide, which is also used in trematode<br />

infections, is classified in P02DA.<br />

The <strong>DDD</strong>s are based on the treatment of schistosomiasis.<br />

P02BA Quinoline derivatives <strong>and</strong> related substances<br />

P02BB Organophosphorous compounds<br />

Metrifonate is administered every second week. The <strong>DDD</strong> is the<br />

dose divided by the dosing interval.<br />

P02BX Other antitrematodal agents<br />

This group comprises agents, which cannot be classified in the<br />

preceding groups.<br />

P02C ANTINEMATODAL AGENTS<br />

This group comprises drugs mainly used <strong>for</strong> nematode infections.<br />

The <strong>DDD</strong>s are based on the treatment of different nematode<br />

infections e.g. ascariasis (roundworm) <strong>and</strong> hookworm infections.<br />

P02CA Benzimidazole derivatives<br />

P02CB Piperazine <strong>and</strong> derivatives<br />

E.g. diethylcarbamazine is classified in this group.
