N03 ANTIEPILEPTICS<br />

N03A ANTIEPILEPTICS<br />

This group comprises preparations used in the treatment of epilepsy.<br />

Combined preparations are classified at separate 5th levels using the<br />

corresponding 50-series.<br />

The group is subdivided according to chemical structure.<br />

The <strong>DDD</strong>s <strong>for</strong> the antiepileptics are based on combination therapy.<br />

N03AA Barbiturates <strong>and</strong> derivatives<br />

Barbiturates used mainly as hypnotics/sedatives are classified in<br />

N05C - Hypnotics <strong>and</strong> sedatives.<br />

Phenobarbital, which is used both as an antiepileptic <strong>and</strong> as a sedative, is<br />

classified in this group.<br />

Combinations with phenytoin are classified in N03AB.<br />

N03AB Hydantoin derivatives<br />

Combinations of phenytoin <strong>and</strong> barbiturates are classified in this group.<br />

N03AC Oxazolidine derivatives<br />

N03AD Succinimide derivatives<br />

N03AE Benzodiazepine derivatives<br />

Benzodiazepines with epilepsy as the main indication are classified in<br />

this group.<br />
