The configProbably the most recognized abbreviation is as follows:Switch#conf tSwitch(config)#You may hear engineers referring to “conf t”. This is their abbreviated way ofsaying “enter the configuration terminal” or Global config mode.Global config mode has several sub modes, and we'll see many of themthroughout this book. There are modes to configure individual interfaces.There are modes to configure specifications for a VLAN. There are modes todefine the details of a routing protocol, and many, many more. Just rememberthe “(config)”.
