PingSource . Particularly if you are running routing code, your switch mayhave many different IP addresses. This option gives you the ability to specifywhich of your switch's IP addresses you want to use as the source IP of theping.Count . This allows you to specify how many pings you want to send. Bydefault, it is set to 1, but it can be as many as 4,294,967,296.Timeout . This specifies how long the switch will wait for the echoreplypacket of the ping. The default is 5,000 milliseconds (5 seconds). It canbe set as high as 4,294,967,296 milliseconds.TTL . This allows you to specify the maximum number of router hopsthe ping packet will take to get to its destination. This prevents excessive looping. The default is 64. It can be set as high as 255.Verify. This command verifies that the data in the echo-reply packet is thesame data that was sent in the echo-request packet. In other words, it makessure that this reply belongs to the appropriate request. By default, it does notverify.No-fragment. This turns on the “don't fragment” bit in the IP header of theping packet. By default, this bit is not turned on.Quiet. This option deletes the first two lines of the output (showing all of thedefault parameters, etc.). The display will only show whether or not the pingreceived a reply.Data . This allows you to specify a pattern inthe data section of the ping packet. By default, this is “abcd” (hex -61626364). The defined pattern will repeat itself throughout the payload portionof the ping packet.Size . This specifies the size of the ICMP data portion of the pingpacket. This is just for the data payload, and does not include the size of theheader. The default is 16 bytes. You can specify a number from 0 to 4,000.Brief [max-print-per-sec ] This will display an individual characterrepresenting the results of each ping.• '!' means a reply was received• '.' means a timeout; the switch did not receive a reply before the timeoutvalue• 'U' means that the switch received an ICMP “Destination Unreachable”message• 'I' means that the user interrupted the ping (e.g., by pressing Ctrl-C)The “max-print-per-sec” setting dictates how many characters will be printed ina given second.Brocade IP Primer 137
