PL-1DESIGN OF CATALYSTS AND CATALYTIC PROCESSESFOR BIOFUELS PRODUCTIONParmon V.N.<strong>Boreskov</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Catalysis</strong> <strong>SB</strong> <strong>RAS</strong>, <strong>Novosibirsk</strong>, <strong>Russia</strong>E-mail: parmon@catalysis.ruThe consumption <strong>of</strong> petroleum has surged during the 20 th century, at leastpartially because <strong>of</strong> the rise <strong>of</strong> the automobile industry. Today, fossil fuels such ascoal, oil, and natural gas provide more than three quarters <strong>of</strong> the world’s energy.However at present renewable feedstock attracts attention due to increasing <strong>of</strong> fossilfuels cost and its graceful irretrievable consumption. At that, now the technologieslevel <strong>of</strong> biomass processing into engine fuels is lower than oil-refinery industry. Thisis a main reason <strong>of</strong> higher prime cost <strong>of</strong> bio-fuels production. Bioethanol andbiodiesel are produced from food raw materials. Bio-fuels competition with foodsector plays negative role for bioenergetics progress. So, for bio-fuels productionincreasing scientific society has to not only improve present biotechnologies, butdevelop new biomass processing technologies with widening <strong>of</strong> renewable feedstocklist, including wood and agricultural waste. The new catalytic technologies <strong>of</strong> biomassprocessing should play a key role in the bioenergetics evolution.In <strong>Boreskov</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Catalysis</strong> the intensive investigations are carried out inthe field <strong>of</strong> biodiesel production in the presence <strong>of</strong> heterogeneous catalysts, highcetanefuels production from biodiesel and plant oils directly, upgrading <strong>of</strong> bio-oil –product <strong>of</strong> wood flash pyrolysis, production <strong>of</strong> bio-syn-gas and carbonaceousmaterials.5
