MAGIC-USER SPELLS (2ND LEVEL)MAGIC-USER SPELLS (2ND LEVEL)Locate object (Divination) ReversibleLevek 2Range: 2"AevelDuration: I round/levelArea of Effect: SpecialExplanation/Description: This spell is the same as the third level clericlocate object (q.v.) except that its range differs.Magic Mouth (Alteration)Level: 2Range: SpecialDuration: SpecialArea of Effect: One objectComponents: V, S, MCasting Time: 2 segmentsSaving Throw: NoneExplanation/Description: When this spell is cast, the magic-user empowersthe chosen object with an enchanted mouth which suddenly appears andspeaks the message which the spell caster imparted upon the occurrenceof a specified event. The magic mouth can speak any message of 25 wordsor less in a language known by the spell caster, over a 1 turn period fromstart to finish. It cannot speak magic spells. The mouth moves to the wordsarticulated, so if it is placed upon a statue, for example, the mouth of thestatue would actually move and appear to speak. Of course, the magicmouth can be placed upon a tree, rock, door or any other object excludingintelligent members of the animal or vegetable kingdoms. The spell willfunction upon specific occurrence according to the command of the spellcaster, i.e. speak to the first creature that touches you - or to the firstcreature that passes within 30'. Command can be as general or specificand detailed as desired, such as the following: "Speak only when anoctogenerian female human carrying a sack of groat clusters sits crossleggedwithin 1'"' Command range is %" per level of the magic-user, so a6th level magic-user can command the magic mouth to speak at amaximum encounter range of 3", i.e. "Speak when a winged creaturecomes within 3'." Until the speak command can be fulfilled, the magicmouth will remain in effect, thus spell duration is variable. A magic mouthcannot distinguish invisible creatures, alignments, level or hit dice, norclass, except by external garb. The material component of this spell is asmall bit of honeycomb.Mirror Image (illusion/Phantasm)Level: 2Range: 0Duration: 2 rounds/levelArea of Effect: 6' radius of spellcasterComponents: V, S, MCasting Time: 2 segmentsSaving Throw: NoneComponents: V, SCasting Time: 2 segmentsSaving Throw: NoneExplanation/Description: When a mirror image spell is invoked, the spellcaster causes from 1 to 4 exact duplicates of himself or herself to come intobeing around his or her person. These images do exactly what the magicuserdoes, and as the spell causes a blurring and slight distortion when it iseffected, it is impossible for opponents to be certain which are thephantasms and which is the actual magic-user. When an image is struck bya weapon, magical or otherwise, it disappears, but any other existingimages remain intact until struck. The images seem to shift from round toround, so that if the actual magic-user is struck during one round, he or shecannot be picked out from amongst his or her images the next. Todetermine the number of images which appear, roll percentile dice, andadd 1 to the resulting score for each level of experience of the magic-user:25 or less = 1 mirror image, 26-50 = 2, 51-75 = 3,75 or more = 4. At theexpiration of the spell duration all images wink out.Pyrotechnics (Alteration)Level: 2Range: 12''Duration: SpecialArea of Effect: 10 or IO0 times thefire source usedComponents: V, SCasting Time: 2 segmentsSaving Throw: NoneExplanation/Description: With the exception of the differences notedabove, this spell is the same as the third level druid spell pyrotechnics(q.v.1.Ray Of Enfeeblement ( Enchantment/Charm)Level: 2Range: I" + 1/4"/levelDuration: I roundAevelArea of Effect: One creatureComponents: V, SCasting Time: 2 segmentsSaving Throw: Neg.Explanation/Description: By means of a ray of enfeeblement, a magicuserweakens an opponent, reducing strength - and attacks which relyupon it - by 25% or more. For every level of experience beyond the thirdof the magic-user casting the spell, there is an additional 2% strengthreduction, so that at 4th level, strength Isss is 27%. Range and duration ofthe spell are also dependent upon the level of experience of the spellcaster. For example, if a creature is struck by a ray of enfeeblement, it willlose the appropriate percentage of hit points of damage it scores onphysical attacks (missiles, thrusting/cutting/crushing weapons, biting, clawing, goring, kicking, constriction, etc.). Your referee will determineany other reductions appropriate to the affected creature. If the targetcreature makes its saving throw, the spell has no effect.Rope Trick (Alteration)Level: 2Range: TouchDuration: 2 turns/levelArea of Effect: SpecialComponents: V, S, MCasting Time: 2 segmentsSaving Throw: NoneExplanation/Description: When this spell is cast upon a piece of rope from5' to 30' in length, one end of the rope rises into the air until the whole ishanging perpendicular, as if affixed at the upper end. The upper end is, infact, fastened in an extra-dimensional space, and the spell caster and upto five others can climb up the rope and disappear into this place of safetywhere no creature can find them. The rope cannot be taken into the extradimensionalspace if six persons have climbed it, but otherwise it can bepulled up. Otherwise, the rope simply hangs in air, and will stay thereunless removed by some creature. The persons in the extra-dimensionalspace must climb down the rope prior to the expiration of the spellduration, or else they are dropped from the height to which they originallyclimbed when the effect of the spell wears out. The rope can be climbedby only one person at a time. Note that the rope trick spell allows climbersto reach a normal place if they do not climb a11 the way to the rope's upperend, which is in an extra-dimensional space. The material components ofthis spell are powdered corn extract and a twisted loop of parchment.Scare (Enchantrnent/Charm)level: 2Range: I"Duration: 3- I2 roundsArea of Effect: One creatureComponents: V, S, MCasting Time: 2 segmentsSaving Throw: Neg.Explanation/Description: When this spell is directed at any creature withfewer than 6 levels of experience/hit dice, it must save versus magic orfall into a fit of trembling and shaking. The frightened creature will notdrop any items held unless it is encumbered. If cornered, the spellrecipient will fight, but at -1 on "to hit" and damage dice rolls and allsaving throws as well. Note that this spell does not have any effect onelves, half-elves, the undead (skeletons, zombies, ghouls, shadows, ghasts, wights, wraiths), larvae, lemures, manes, or clerics of any sort. Thematerial component used for this spell is a bit of bone from an undeadskeleton, zombie, ghoul, ghost or mummy.Shatter (Alteration)Level: 2Range: 6"Components: V, S, MCasting Time: 2 segments71
