Stream flows observed during the survey represented a low flow condition of about 1-2 cfs.Surface waters appeared slightly milky upstream of the village.Immediately upstream of the inhabited villagearea, periphyton covered rocks within thestream. The periphyton complex, whichprimarily consisted of Cladophora andSpirogyra, was especially heavy since astormwater event had occurred only threeweeks prior to the survey. The heavier coverwas probably due to the increased amount ofsunlight reaching the water. However, theincreased amount of algae could also reflectnutrient inputs generated from upstreamagricultural activities.FishNear the stream mouth, Kuhlia spp. and Mugil were abundant. Four species of gobies werecommon. Eleotrids and a small anguillid were also observed in this area.Upstream of the village, gobies were also common. A plentiful population of Kuhlia was alsodocumented.InvertebratesTwo species of neritid snails were common along the stream segment. However, no Poeciliawere recorded.Macrobrachium lar and Paleomon spp. were abundant upstream of the inhabited village area.Relative Abundance and Diversity of Fish and InvertebratesA site specific summary of macrofaunal organisms observed during the survey are summarizedin Table 10-4. Genera are listed in order of descending abundance within their taxonomicgroup.The relative abundance and diversity of fish and invertebrates along Asili Stream issummarized in Table 10-5. Seawardof the Route 1 bridge, no residential uses were located adjacent to the stream.A few piggeries were also located near thebanks of the stream.
