Driving Your <strong>Mazda</strong>Starting and DrivingWARNINGDriving with Wet Brakes:Driving with wet brakes is dangerous.Increased stopping distance or thevehicle pulling to one side whenbraking could result in a seriousaccident. Light braking will indicatewhether the brakes have been affected.Dry the brakes by driving very slowlyand applying the brakes lightly untilbrake performance is normal.Setting the parking brakeDepress the brake pedal and then firmlypull the parking brake lever fully upwardswith a greater amount of force than isrequired so that the vehicle holds in thestationary position.qParking BrakeWARNINGNot Setting the Parking Brake:Leaving the driver's seat withoutsetting the parking brake isdangerous. Unexpected vehiclemovement could occur if the parkingbrake is not set. This could cause anaccident. Before leaving the driver'sseat, always set the parking brake andmake sure the shift lever is in P withan aut<strong>om</strong>atic transaxle or in 1 or Rwith a manual transaxle.Releasing the parking brakeDepress the brake pedal and pull theparking brake lever upwards, then pressthe release button. While holding thebutton, lower the parking brake lever allthe way down to the released position.CAUTIONDriving with the parking brake on willcause excessive wear of the brakelinings or pads.NOTEFor parking in snow, refer to WinterDriving (page 4-9) regarding parkingbrake use.5-5
