Maintenance and CareOwner MaintenanceFluid cold scale BWhen the engine has not been runningand the outside temperature is about 20°C(70°F), the fluid level should be close to,but not above, the bott<strong>om</strong> notch on thedipstick.lllCAUTIONUse the cold scale only as areference.If outside temperature is lower thanabout 20°C (70°F), start the engineand inspect the fluid level after theengine reaches operatingtemperature.If the vehicle has been driven for anextended period at high speeds or incity traffic in hot weather, inspect thelevel only after stopping the engineand allowing the fluid to cool for 30minutes.Fully insert the dipstick. When addingfluid, inspect with the dipstick to makesure it doesn't pass full.NOTEInspect the fluid on both sides of thedipstick in a well lit area for an accuratereading.Washer FluidqInspecting Washer Fluid LevelWARNINGSubstitute Washer Fluid:Using radiator antifreeze as washerfluid is dangerous. If sprayed on thewindshield, it will dirty the windshield,affect your visibility, and could resultin an accident. Use only windshieldwasher fluid or plain water in thereservoir.Using Washer Fluid Without AntifreezeProtection in Cold Weather:Operating your vehicle intemperatures below 4 degrees C (40degrees F) using washer fluid withoutanti-freeze protection is dangerous asit could cause impaired windshieldvision and result in an accident. Incold weather, always use washer fluidwith anti-freeze protection.NOTEState or local regulations may restrictthe use of volatile organic c<strong>om</strong>pounds(VOCs), which are c<strong>om</strong>monly used asanti-freeze agents in washer fluid. Awasher fluid with limited VOC contentshould be used only if it providesadequate freeze resistance for allregions and climates in which thevehicle will be operated.8-27
