Essential Safety EquipmentSRS Air BagsWARNINGAir Bag/Front Seat Belt PretensionerSystem Warning Beep:Driving the vehicle with the air bag/front seat belt pretensioner systemwarning beep sounding is dangerous.In a collision, the air bags and thefront seat belt pretensioner system willnot deploy and this could result indeath or serious injury.Do not drive the vehicle with the airbag/front seat belt pretensioner systemwarning beep sounding. Contact anAuthorized Mazda Dealer to have thevehicle inspected as soon as possible.qMaintenanceThe air bag systems do not require regularmaintenance. But if any of the followingoccurs, take your vehicle to an AuthorizedMazda Dealer as soon as possible:l The air bag system warning lightflashes.l The air bag system warning lightremains illuminated.l The air bag system warning light doesnot illuminate when the ignition switchis turned to the ON position.l The air bags have deployed.l Front passenger air bag deactivationindicator light does not illuminatewhen the ignition switch is turned tothe ON position or does not illuminateas indicated in the chart. For moredetails about this indicator light andthis chart, refer to “Front passengerseat weight sensors” (page 2-45).WARNINGDamaged Air Bag/Seat BeltPretensioner System Components:Expended or damaged air bag or seatbelt pretensioner units must bereplaced after any collision whichcaused them to deploy or damagethem. Only a trained AuthorizedMazda Dealer can fully evaluate thesesystems to see that they will work inthe next accident. Driving with anexpended or damaged air bag orpretensioner units will provide youreduced protection in the next accidentand you could be injured or killed.Removing Interior Parts:Removing any components such as thefront seats, front dashboard, thesteering wheel or parts on the frontand rear window pillars and along theroof edge, containing air bag parts orsensors is dangerous. These partscontain essential air bag components.The air bag could accidentally activateand cause serious injuries. Alwayshave an Authorized Mazda Dealerremove these parts.Air Bag Disposal:Improper disposal of an air bag or avehicle with live air bags in it can beextremely dangerous. Unless all safetyprocedures are followed, injury canresult. Ask an Authorized MazdaDealer how to safely dispose of an airbag or how to scrap an air bagequipped vehicle.2-54
