Driving Your MazdaStarting and DrivingWARNINGVehicle Handling When Tire PressureMonitoring System Warning LightIlluminates/Flashes:When the tire pressure monitoringsystem warning light illuminates orflashes, or the tire pressure warningbeep sound is heard, it is dangerous todrive the vehicle at high speeds, orperform sudden maneuvering orbraking. Vehicle drivability couldworsen and result in an accident. When the tire pressure monitoringsystem warning light illuminates orflashes, or the tire pressure warningbeep sound is heard, decrease vehiclespeed immediately and avoid suddenmaneuvering and braking. Have thesystem and tires checked or performthe appropriate repair as soon aspossible by an Authorized MazdaDealer.Ignoring the Warning Light:Ignoring the warning light isdangerous, even if you know why it isilluminated. Have the problem takencare of as soon as possible before itdevelops into a more serious situationthat could lead to tire failure and adangerous accident.Warning light illuminates/Warningbeep soundsWhen the warning light illuminates, andthe warning beep sound is heard (about 3seconds), tire pressure is too low in one ormore tires.Adjust the tire pressure to the correct tirepressure. Refer to the specification charts(page 10-7).CAUTIONWhen replacing/repairing the tires orwheels or both, have the work done byan Authorized Mazda Dealer, or the tirepressure sensors may be damaged.NOTElPerform tire pressure adjustmentwhen the tires are cold. Tire pressurewill vary according to the tiretemperature, therefore let the vehiclestand for 1 hour or only drive it 1.6km (1 mile) or less before adjustingthe tire pressures. When pressure isadjusted on hot tires to the coldinflation pressure, the TPMSwarning light/beep may turn on afterthe tires cool and pressure dropsbelow specification. Also, an illuminated TPMS warninglight, resulting from the tire airpressure dropping due to coldambient temperature, may go out ifthe ambient temperature rises. In thiscase, it will also be necessary toadjust the tire air pressures. If theTPMS warning light illuminates dueto a drop in tire air pressure, makesure to check and adjust the tire airpressures.5-24
