DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION1.4.5 Missions and international organisations are obliged in terms ofsection 13 of the Act to provide proof of public liability insuranceon diplomatic premises.1.5 Duty Free Importation and Purchases1.5.1 Diplomatic missions, consular posts, international organisations andtransferred representatives of the above offices who are accreditedwith the Department and conferred with full diplomatic privilegesare exempt from customs duties and VAT on imported goods andarticles, including motor vehicles dealt with in paragraph 1.6. Fulldiplomatic privileges encompass diplomatic staff and career consularofficers.1.5.2 Transferred officials accredited with the Department and conferredwith functional immunity except career consular officers butincluding consular employees, may import goods and personaleffects within the first six months from date of arrival, including theimport or local purchase of motor vehicles. The first entry restrictionis prescribed by legislation. The Department has no mandate tointervene for relief in this regard.1.5.3 The Head of Mission and the Head of Office of an InternationalOrganisation shall authorise purchases from duty free shops inPage 19 of 90
