The representative must be in possession of a letter from therelevant mission stating that he/she is departing from South Africapermanently.(b)Refunds are processed at departure points by the VAT RefundAdministrator.(c)Refunds will only be considered in respect of goods purchased withina period of three months prior to the diplomat's date of departure fromSouth Africa.(d)Items that are to be sent by air or sea as unaccompanied baggagebefore the departure of a diplomat from South Africa upon completionof a term of duty will not qualify for a refund unless the goods areverified by Customs and Excise and the applicable tax invoices areendorsed by them. DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION1.9 Refunds of TV licensesPayment of television licenses is non-refundable.1.10 Police Protection and Traffic ArrangementsEmergencies1.10.1 The Diplomatic Policing Unit of the South African Police Service(DPU) is tasked to provide protection to the accredited diplomaticand international communities in the Republic. Members of thesecommunities must contact the DPU 24 hour emergency number atthe Control Room at 012 400 6590 / 91 in case of emergency.1.10.2 In addition, the South African Police Service 24 hour nationalemergency line at 10 111 could also be contacted with a clearinstruction that a member of the diplomatic community is in anemergency situation where the DPU reaction is immediatelyrequired.Officialfunctions:Requests forsecurityassistanceand trafficcontrol1.10.3 The DPU will provide additional protection during the hosting of allofficial functions, including the celebration of National Days. Thisincludes visible policing and patrolling of the venue and immediatesurroundings and, where and when required, inspection of thepremises by the bomb squad unit. Local traffic authorities will benotified to ensure a smooth flow of traffic for the duration of thePage 29 of 90
