2009 <strong>CityMatCH</strong> Urban MCH Leadership <strong>Conference</strong>To date, over 750 men have graduated <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> FFL ten-week educational sessions.An additional 250 men have been assisted through <strong>the</strong> FFL Resource Office. Resource office staff fieldapproximately 150 calls and 50 plus office visits monthly.FFL remains committed to engaging key stakeholders, representing all aspects of <strong>the</strong> community, insupporting <strong>the</strong> efforts of fa<strong>the</strong>rs to get connected and stay connected to <strong>the</strong>ir children. FFL hassuccessfully partnered with health care providers, public health professionals, law enforcement, childsupport enforcement, child abuse and neglect advocates, parenting trainers, district court judges, familymediators, mental health <strong>the</strong>rapists to provide education, information and resources for men.The proposed abstract presentation will include specific qualitative and quantifiable results based uponpre and post test results, health care assessments, weekly session evaluations and process and impactevaluation results. It will also identify numerous barriers to successfully integrating male involvement ino<strong>the</strong>r local and state MCH areas. Educating MCH personnel on <strong>the</strong> role of fa<strong>the</strong>rs in MCH, creation andmaintenance of fa<strong>the</strong>r-friendly work environments; meaningful engagement and recruitment of fa<strong>the</strong>rs inall aspects of perinatal health care and education; conflicting institutional messages regarding <strong>the</strong> role offa<strong>the</strong>rs in MCH; limited resources for low-income uninsured fa<strong>the</strong>rs; and myths related to masculinity areamong <strong>the</strong> barriers/challenges that face male involvement initiatives around <strong>the</strong> country in <strong>the</strong>ir efforts tosupport men in gaining ACCESS to MCH programs and services.96
