2009 <strong>CityMatCH</strong> Urban MCH Leadership <strong>Conference</strong>ACCOMPLISHMENTS/RESULTSBetween April 2008 and March 2009, <strong>the</strong> CRS served 260 unique clients. A detailed analysis of a sampleof 129 clients revealed that:• Top three reasons for referral to <strong>the</strong> CRS were: Family Planning needs (73), positive pregnancy test(52), and repeated STDs (25).• There were 22 clients with a “positive” depression screening score, indicating a need for referral formental health services.• Clients received women’s health education on topics such as baby spacing (77), nutrition (55), andSTDs (24).• Top five referrals provided included: Case Management (34), Education (27), Medical Care (25),Family Planning (22), and WIC (21).BARRIERSBarriers to implementing CRS delivered services included increasing awareness and buy-in of HealthDepartment staff, potential loss of clients due to perceived wait time, and limited staffing of CRSposition.LESSONS LEARNEDServices delivered by <strong>the</strong> CRS present an opportunity to prevent poor birth outcomes by reducing riskfactors prior to pregnancy in Health Department clients. Results support <strong>the</strong> need to incorporate <strong>the</strong> LifeCourse Perspective in service delivery.92
