2009 CityMatCH Urban MCH Leadership Conferenceof the logistic regression show the odds of using a condom use at 1st sex are 2.68 times higher if womenreported condom use at last sex than if they did not after controlling for other variables.CONCLUSIONS/IMPLICATIONSThe findings in this study support the hypothesis that there is an association between condom use at lastsex and condom use at sexual debut. The results of this study also illustrate significant differences incondom use at last sex between Black women and White women, thus supporting the second hypothesisthat condom use at last sex differs by race. Comprehensive sexual education that addresses not onlyabstinencebut also safer sex options should be employed prior to sexual debut in adolescents. Over time, regularpractice of condom use may form a habit of consistent condom use. Efforts to prevent the further spreadof HIV in minority populations should continue, as Black women reported higher condom use then Whitewomen. Additional research should also analyze trends of condom use behaviors over time by assessingprevious cycles of the NSFG.84

Studies have shownthat women that are healthier before getting pregnant or more likely to have positive birth outcomescompared to women that have negative health problems. Getting women to be at a healthy weight for theirheight is especially important, component of health.OBJECTIVESTo examine the impact of pre-pregnancy Body Mass Index (BMI), on birth outcomes such as low birthweight and prematurity.METHODSVital Statistical Records for Orange County, Florida from 2006 to 2008 were used for the analysis. Intotal, 56,627 births and their respective outcomes were included in the study. The birth outcome variablesunder consideration included prematurity (gestation less than 37 weeks) and low birth weight (birthweight > 2499 grams).Using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation for BMI categorizations, womenwere grouped into 4 categories, underweight (BMI >184), Normal weight (BMI 18.5-24.9), Overweight(BMI 25.0-29.9) and Obese (BMI 30.0+). Estimated birth weight 90 days before pregnancy was used tocalculate the pre-pregnancy BMI. Women with missing information for any of the relevant variables wereexcluded from the study.85
