Recent local data reveal agrowing obesity trend among children and adults. By targeting women of childbearing age, <strong>the</strong> programintends to influence <strong>the</strong> person responsible for making many of <strong>the</strong> family’s choices regarding nutritionand leisure time: <strong>the</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r.SETTINGWTFH is taught throughout Maricopa County, including public school literacy programs, Head Startclassrooms, churches, and community centers. The target audiences are low income women, those thatidentify as ethnic minorities, and those with fewer years of formal education, because of <strong>the</strong> healthdisparities that exist within <strong>the</strong>se populations. Classes are taught in English or Spanish.PROJECTWTFH addresses physical activity promotion, nutrition education, stress management, and tobaccoexposure reduction. This interactive course includes exercise sessions, food sampling, and o<strong>the</strong>r hands-onactivities. The program is co-taught by Health Educators <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> Office of Health Promotion andEducation, and Registered Dietitians in <strong>the</strong> Office of Nutrition Services. Data measurement consists ofpre/post surveys and pedometers with step-logs.ACCOMPLISHMENTS/RESULTSIn 2008, WTFH had 706 participants and 370 program completers. The program staff was successful inreaching <strong>the</strong>ir target audience: 76% identified as ethnic minorities, 42% did not graduate high school,32
