Nurse-Family Partnership has been successful in convincing policymakers of itsvalue as a preventive intervention and its cost-effectiveness, and now has <strong>the</strong> potential for federal fundingand major investments in state and city-based program implementation.SETTINGMCH leaders in cities anywhere in <strong>the</strong> U.S., but particularly where poverty is concentrated.PROJECTWith city partners, we are designing <strong>the</strong> fiscal and administrative infrastructure to support Nurse-FamilyPartnership at sufficient scale to impact maternal and child health in urban environments over <strong>the</strong> longterm.ACCOMPLISHMENTS/RESULTSA recent study by Dr. Ted Miller at <strong>the</strong> Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) concludedthat based on research conducted on Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) in Memphis, Tennessee (lowincome,urban African-American women and families), whenever Medicaid provides NFP services to aneligible first-born child, <strong>the</strong> expected Federal cost savings over a ten-year time horizon exceed <strong>the</strong> Federalgovernment's costs to provide <strong>the</strong> services.
