In this time of economic uncertainty <strong>the</strong>re is greater need toincrease collaborative efforts, pool and leverage resources, increase communication between a variety ofstakeholders, and use new technology to effectively implement innovative solutions to prevent HIV, STD,and pregnancy among adolescents.SETTINGThe National Stakeholders Meeting (NSM), designed by <strong>the</strong> National Stakeholders Collaborative (NSC),a partnership between <strong>the</strong> Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs, <strong>the</strong> National Alliance ofState and Territorial AIDS Directors, <strong>the</strong> National Coalition of STD Directors, and <strong>the</strong> Society of StateDirectors of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, is a capacity-building process that brings toge<strong>the</strong>rstate health agencies, state education agencies , and o<strong>the</strong>r stakeholders to streng<strong>the</strong>n communication andcollaboration and to improve HIV, STD, and teen pregnancy prevention among adolescents.PROJECT MODELSince 2003, with support <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - Division of Adolescentand School Health (CDC/DASH), 33 teams have participated in NSMs, three day capacity buildingmeetings supported by nine to 12 months of technical assistance.66
