2009 <strong>CityMatCH</strong> Urban MCH Leadership <strong>Conference</strong>ACCOMPLISHMENTS/RESULTSAll three pilot sites completed <strong>the</strong> required number of case reviews and held regular CRT meetings. CATsmade recommendations that resulted in positive changes in all three project communities.BARRIERS• A lengthy IRB process,• Access to HIV/AIDS data,• Budget and time constraints.LESSONS LEARNED• Using <strong>the</strong> FIMR methodology increases and streng<strong>the</strong>ns <strong>the</strong> partnership between MCH and HIV,resulting in improvements to systems of care for women.• Having representation <strong>from</strong> both <strong>the</strong> MCH and HIV fields and a diverse membership in <strong>the</strong> makeup of<strong>the</strong> CRT and CAT is essential.• Implementing a two-tiered system —a CRT to identify potential improvements and a CAT to carry outimprovements— is critical.• Conducting maternal interviews produces a wealth of qualitative information not available in <strong>the</strong>medical records and provides a unique and powerful opportunity for <strong>the</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r to share her experiences.PUBLIC HEALTH IMPLICATIONSCDC is continuing to support <strong>the</strong> FIMR/HIV methodology. Participating partners are providing fiscalsupport to new project sites and are developing a FIMR/HIV Learning Community & Resource Center.80
