The first section deals with social and cultural issues and the context ofcare for women. The second section focuses on antepartum care and management. Thefinal section focuses on caring for women with primary care problems. Required in thefinal year for all students in the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner track. S. Gottlieb.752a/b, Clinical Practice in Women’s Health Care. 3.2 credit hours per term. Thefocus of this practicum is comprehensive management of health care needs specific towomen within the context of their lives. The course concentrates on the application ofphysiologic, developmental, psychosocial, and cultural theories to advanced clinicaldecision making. The fall term focuses on reproductive and developmental health issuesfor women. The spring term is a continuation of the fall term course and focuses on diseasesspecific to or more commonly seen in women within a multidisciplinary contextincorporating both allopathic and complementary approaches. Required in the final yearfor all students enrolled in the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner track. Eight hoursper week of clinical practice required. Minimum 1.3 credit hours per term.This clinical practicum provides students with the opportunity to gain knowledge andexperience in a specialty practice beyond that which is provided in primary care. Examplesof practice areas are AIDS, occupational health, and women’s health problems.Required for all adult nurse practitioner students in the fall and spring of the final yearof specialization, with the exception of those students electing the Family Nurse Practitionertrack, Women’s Health Care track; Diabetes or Home Care concentrations. Aminimum of four hours of clinical practice per week. M. Mauldon.756a/b, Advanced Clinical Practice for Adult Nurse Practitioners. Minimum3 credit hours per term. This practicum provides the opportunity for further developmentand refinement of primary care skills and clinical judgment. Nurse practitioner andphysician preceptors assist students in their clinical development. Clinical conferencesfocus on the process of clinical reasoning through the case presentation method.Required for adult, family, and women’s health nurse practitioner students in the finalyear of specialization. A minimum of eight hours of clinical practice per week. Clinicalconference one and one-half hours per week. Prerequisite: Successful completion of556b. M. Mauldon, D. Viens.757a/b, Primary Care Problems of Adults II. 2 credit hours per term. A continuationof 557a/b. Lectures focus on the differential diagnosis and management of commonambulatory adult and adolescent health problems. Required for adult, family, women’shealth, and psychiatric–mental health nurse practitioner students in the final year ofspecialization. Prerequisite: Successful completion of 556b (adult and family nurse practitionerstudents only) and 557a/b. Two hours per week. D. Viens.
