Lyder,Director, Adult, Family,Gerontological, and Women’sHealth Primary Care SpecialtyThe Adult, Family, Gerontological, and Women’s HealthPrimary Care specialty is designed to prepare nurse practitionersto meet the primary care needs of diverse populationsthroughout the life span. The curriculum focuses onthe diverse health care needs of clients served in a multitudeof settings. Each client is viewed in relation to his or her selfdescribedfamily and community. This curriculum integratesresearch, clinical practice, and policy to prepare nursepractitioners as leaders in the provision of primary care.Adult Nurse Practitioner TrackThe Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) track offers the opportunityto integrate physical and psychosocial assessment,health promotion, and disease management skills intofamily-centered <strong>nursing</strong> practice in the care of adults andadolescents. On completion of the Adult Nurse Practitionertrack, students are eligible for ANP Certification throughthe American Nurses’ Credentialing Center and the American Academy of NursePractitioners.In the first year, students learn and apply the concepts of primary health for adults andadolescents. Through didactic courses and clinical application courses, adult nurse practitionercare is put into practice. Throughout both years, classes are offered in differentialdiagnosis and management of common primary health care problems.
