It is expected that the with thefurther extension <strong>of</strong> the Modernization <strong>of</strong> State<strong>Police</strong> Force scheme (MPF scheme) launchedin Financial year 2000-01 for five years, theremaining deficiency <strong>of</strong> <strong>Police</strong> vehicles <strong>and</strong> thenew one arising out <strong>of</strong> normal attrition <strong>and</strong>sanction <strong>of</strong> new <strong>Police</strong> Units shall also be metcompletely.The total number <strong>of</strong> 1,43,965 vehiclesavailable with the States/UTs <strong>Police</strong> ason 01.01.<strong>2012</strong>, increased by 3.45% fromthe availability <strong>of</strong> 1,39,162 vehicles as on01.01.2011.The highest number <strong>of</strong> vehicles in allcategories, were held by :1. Tamil Nadu <strong>Police</strong> 13,663 vehicles2. Uttar Pradesh <strong>Police</strong> 12,459 vehicles3. Maharashtra <strong>Police</strong> 11,058 vehicles98
