CHAPTER 10different States/UTs of the country for morethen six months during 2011.The deployment of Central Armed PoliceForces (CAPFs) in different States/UTs hassteadily increased from the year 2003 to 2011except 2004 and 2007 where it decreasedmarginally as shown in the graph below.As the number of districts affectedby Terrorists / Extremists has increasedover the years, this has warranteddeployment of more and more CentralArmed Police Forces. This has becomenecessary because the State Police Forcehave yet to acquire upgraded capabilityto meet the formidable challenge fromthe well armed insurgents/extremists inthese regions. The ongoing process ofsanction by MHA for the creation of IndiaReserve Battalions by different Stateswill gradually reduce the dependency ofState Governments on the Central ArmedPolice Forces (CAPFs).At state level it is observed that themaximum of 704 companies of CAPFswere deployed in Jammu & Kashmirfollowed by 402 in Meghalaya and 162in Chhattisgarh. It clearly indicates thatNorth-Central and North-East Regionsof the country, which are affected by theterrorists/extremists in the country, hadvery significant deployment of CentralArmed Police Forces (CAPFs) during thisperiod. Details are given in Table – 10.2.(Page No. 116)Tracker / Sniffer Dogs in Police ForceState and Central Armed Police Forcesdeployed for security of the VIPs, fightinginsurgents, militants, criminals, terrorists orfor controlling mobs take the help of snifferdogs to avert any untoward incident or totrack the accused person. With the increasein the incidence of thefts, robbery, murdersand burglary the role of tracker and snifferdogs has become very important.
